*Note: I utilize primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT). These theoretical orientations hold that the key to emotional and behavioral change lies in addressing their underlying core beliefs or automatic thought patterns, which have become maladaptive and thus counterproductive for the client. Additionally and/or supplementally, we might explore Existential concerns, Psychodynamics toward gaining insight into the roots of interpersonal behavior, Gestalt approaches, or Solution-Focused problem solving, among others. This use of a variety of theoretical orientations is called "Eclectic" (or "Integrative") Therapy and is recognized and supported by the American Counseling Association (ACA), the American Psychological Association (APA), and the general psychotherapeutic community.
